The Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC) has announced the completion of the application process for the celebrated FDCC Designer Development Fund.

The FDCC has launched a fund to be awarded each year to an exceptional Canadian fashion designer who displays significant potential for growth in the Canadian and international fashion industry and received over 50 applications from across Canada.

The FDDF Jury, comprised of prominent fashion industry professionals consisted of Robin Kay, President Fashion Design Council of Canada; Joseph Mimran, Creative Director Joe Fresh Style; Lisa Tant, Editor in Chief Flare Magazine; Linda Hechtl, Marketing Team Lead LG Electronics; Anik Gagnon, Communications Director L’Oreal Paris; Andrew Kim, Fashion Direction Manager Men’s, Hudson’s Bay Co.; and Erika Larva, President, Monarch Events Group Inc. The FDDF Jury carefully reviewed the top seven applications and interviewed each designer to reach their final decision.

The winning recipient will be announced at LG Fashion Week beauty by L’Oréal Paris October 2009 and will show their Fall 2010 Collection at LG Fashion Week beauty by L’Oréal Paris March 2010.

The FDCC Designer Development Fund will include a cash component to be awarded to a designer in the growth stage of their career which will be utilized to assist their brand marketing and completion of their business objectives. The FDDF also includes a sponsored runway fee from the Fashion Design Council of Canada for LG Fashion Week March 2010, a business mentorship with Robin Kay to further the growth of the designers business, and editorial coverage in Canada’s premiere fashion magazine, Flare.

"LG Fashion Week beauty by L’Oréal Paris is dedicated to supporting designers with a runway, an industry market and access to media to launch their collections and maintain their business growth," said Robin Kay. "Now, with this fund, we want to extend the potential to build their brand and assist the designers with the necessary tools to help them emerge nationally and internationally in this new economy."
