David Dixon
Born in Toronto, Canada, and educated at Ryerson University, for which he now serves as an advisor to the Board of Directors, David Dixon enjoys tremendous media acclaim, standing out among his Canadian contemporaries as one of the leaders in fashion design.
In 1995, after an apprenticeship with Alfred Sung, Dixon established his own label. He started out at the Toronto Fashion Incubator and began manufacturing and wholesaling his own line in 1996. Dixon left the Incubator to launch his own Toronto-based design and production studio, but he remains affiliated with the TFI and sits on its Board as the President.
The overriding theme in Dixon’s collection is quiet elegance. He believes that women respond first to colour and texture. Simple and modern silhouettes present the opportunity for him to explore textiles, creating his own signature fabrics and searching the globe for new fabrications. Dixon’s clothing combines luxury with function, fantasy with sensibility. His collections have been shown across Canada, New York, and Germany.
Today, David Dixon’s designs are sold across Canada and in the United States, Kuwait, the UAE, Switzerland, Germany, Tokyo and Hong Kong. His innovative designs have won him a following among the elite, including: Meg Ryan, Jeanne Beker, Wendy Crewson, Daria Werbowy, Ashley MacIsaac, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paul Gross, Tre Armstrong, Kristin Booth, Ivana Santilli and Monika Schnarre.
More recently, Dixon has expanded his successful signature collection, and has partnered with several National and International brands. Collaborations with the Town Shoes Chain have resulted in a nationally recognized David Dixon shoe line, while partnerships with The Shopping Channel and Mattel International have brought Dixon into other new and exciting arenas.
In 2008, Dixon secured the exclusive licensing rights for Barbie by David Dixon, a ready to wear collection for real women, to be sold across Canada exclusively through The Bay Department Stores. Currently the David Dixon Signature Collection can be found at The Bay, Holt Renfrew, and specialty boutiques across Canada.
